Should Boxers Use Weights?
Posted by The Prof in Boxing Nutrition, Boxing Technique, Boxing Training Advice on August 9th, 2009
The boxing world has been split for some time now with the age old dispute of if boxers should use weights to help them perform better in the square circle. In the olden days trainers believes that too much muscle mass would be a disadvantage as the extra muscle mass would make the boxer slower. There was alo the thought that carrying the extra muscle would make it harder for a boxer to finish the fight stronger as it would be harder work carrying the extra muscle.
So olden day training methods and trainers (many still do today) believed that small weights were the answer. So most fighters used small weights with lots of reps.
Even the great Muhammed Ali never trained at all using weights.

Bling, Bling! Not so Stylish Corner

The Boxing Professor has found one of the most un stylish boxing accessories possibly on the planet. I dont think there is anyone in the boxing world that could pull this look off.

These diamond encrusted boxing gloves cost a cool $20,000 and are only three inches high. The Boxing Professor couldnt even pull this look off.
David vs Golaith (Haye vs Valuev) Betting Advice
Posted by The Prof in Boxing Betting Advice on July 28th, 2009
Former cruiserweight world champion David Haye is set to fight the 23 stone Russian giant Nikolai Valuev on November 7 (thought to be in Germany).
The Englishman is still un-proven at heavyweight and gets this fight due to suffering a back injury in the build up to Wladimir Klitschko fight.
Valuev has a very impressive record with wins over Evander Holyfield and John ruiz twice. The Russian is the tallest and heaviest ever world boxing champion.

Ricky Hatton Plea
Posted by The Prof in Boxing News on July 28th, 2009
The Boxing Professor believes that no-one should call out retirement but only the person themselves, but in this case i think there are several contributing factors to why the hitman should call it a day.
After the Manny Pacquiao loss my immediate reaction was that Ricky Hatton should carry on, although this was for purely selfish reasons. The Boxing Professor is a massive Ricky Hatton fan both inside and outside the ring. I think his style was underated and thought it was harsh that people used to refer to him as a brawler as I believe that he was highly talented and thought he could still be a major force in the Junior Welterwight division.
Some of these reasons have been highly documented and I am just going to mention a few. First off all Ricky Hatton has a loving fiance and a young son is it fair to keep putting them through all of the heartache.

Mayweather vs Marquez Betting Advice

The Boxing Professor is really looking forward to this bout (it feels like there hasnt been a exciting boxing match for a while now).
Marquez has the chance to upset the former p4p king on the Mexican Independence Day of September the 19th. Oscar De la Hoya has predicted the possibility of the fight being “one of the all time great boxing matches”.

Boxing t-shirts

I’m afraid the boxing world is not known for its fashion style, and what style it is known for couldn’t exactly be described as understated. I mean look at Hatton’s shorts, or Exhibit A as I call them.

So if you want to stand out from the crowd and bring a little much needed style in to the square circle then have a look at the following boxing t-shirts.

Winning Boxing Gloves :: Worth the money or not?
Posted by Oldboy in Boxing Gloves on July 17th, 2009
Made in Japan the Winning range of boxing gloves have achieved an also mythical status within the game. The high, and I mean HIGH, prices seem to suggest that winning gloves are simply the very best that money can buy. Are they and will they give you the edge that we all seek?
I’m an older guy, so as well as being a bit slow round the ring I tend to have a little more disposable income than the average newcomer to boxing so I hit on the Winning brand like a laser. After all surely the most expensive must be the best. I went for the Winning Pro Gloves MS-600, 16oz in Red, convinced that they would roll back the clock and let this old boy rip up the ring.
Take a look at the gloves in question, click the images for a larger view.
Boxing – Not Just For Thugs
Posted by The Prof in Boxing News, Boxing Training Advice on July 13th, 2009
The Boxing Professor doesn’t get on his high horse very often but one thing that does make him annoyed is the fact that many people out there imagine boxing to be a sport for aggresive thugs wanting to see blood. How many of these people have actually ever took the time to go and visit a boxing club.
Anyone who has gone to look at a boxing club for whatever reason knows that there is so much skill involved in boxing that it’s frightening. You can spend six months just learning how to move around the ring.
Thankfully more people are realising the benefits of boxing, as whole body workout.
