Posted by The Prof in Boxing Nutrition, Boxing Technique, Boxing Training Advice on August 9th, 2009
The boxing world has been split for some time now with the age old dispute of if boxers should use weights to help them perform better in the square circle. In the olden days trainers believes that too much muscle mass would be a disadvantage as the extra muscle mass would make the boxer slower. There was alo the thought that carrying the extra muscle would make it harder for a boxer to finish the fight stronger as it would be harder work carrying the extra muscle.
So olden day training methods and trainers (many still do today) believed that small weights were the answer. So most fighters used small weights with lots of reps.
Even the great Muhammed Ali never trained at all using weights.
